The TRUTH about Sierra

I like hills, BUT this thing is a real butt kicker. At mile 73 and temps in the high 80's with no shade, this thing was a real treat. A special thanks to Chuck for sandbagging us!

The real stats:

Distance: 3.6 miles
Elevation Gain: 1795'
Average Grade: 9.4% (1st half, 10.4% - 2nd half 8.5%)
Max Grade: 1st half, 14.9, 2nd half 14.1

To put this in perspective, here are the stats on Old La Honda...

Distance: 3.6 miles
Elevation Gain: 1302'
Average Grade: 6.8%
Max Grade: 12.9%

Best of luck to Himgan who will hit this hill in two weeks during the DMD at mile 155 with around 15'000 feet of climbing already logged on his legs! Just remember, "It's not that bad"

Hey, I did say it was a stupid thing to do at lunch. (Last moment CYA)

I was relieved my bike thermometer only showed 95. On the backside of Hamilton it touched 104.

Thanks to all for the great ride and patience(Where's Chuck?).

With any luck Himgan will encounter more benign conditions than we had on DMD last year: we hit the 90s at Patterson around nine something in the morning and we're still in the 90's at Sierra at five in the afternoon... Hamilton maxed out on my Polar at 103 degrees (still eclipsed by the 108 or so on Skaags on TT in 2006). Just remember: wake up and PUT ON SUNSCREEN before anything else!
